Bufo Toad Encounter!

"Toby is an amazing 11 year old Jack Russel Terrier who had a bad encounter with a Bufo toad, a resident toad in Florida known for his potent toxin that affects the neurologic system. Toby presented to us seizing and rapidly progressed to a coma, with possible evidence of brain injury. He was treated and attended to around the clock by technicians and doctors by his side at all times. He woke up from his coma and few days later, he was bright and alert, eating and drinking normally again!
He came back for his recheck examination and is doing wonderful! He is back to being normal at home according to his parents; and he even gave us kisses when he was in the back for his examination. Toby is an amazing little boy that touched our hearts and we are so happy to have been able to help him recover from this unfortunate encounter!"

Isabella Long Legs

"Dear Dr. Goodrich,

I am about to celebrate my first anniversary of still having four long legs...thanks to the surgery you did one year ago when I was a small kitten. My name is Isabella Long Legs-or sometimes called Isabella 4 Long Legs. (My favorite nickname is Isabella Chickie Baby when I get grilled KFC chicken breast as a treat.)

I still live with Auntie and 4 other foster care cats who were also doomed in one way or another. I also live with a 35 pound mixed lab who was going to be euthanized because she was so terrified of humans and other dogs. Sound like a zoo? Just an in-home shelter.

I can jump four feet horizontally with ease. I can also defend the cat house (see first picture) which I claim as mine. In fact, since I got spayed I think that I am an Amazon Queen even though I am only 5 pounds. My vet, Dr. Shipley, sometimes worries that I might have FIP. My Auntie thinks I have some sort of genetic syndrome: slim body, small head, even smaller lower jaw, weird claws on the index finger of both paws. I vote for what my Auntie thinks because it's more benign plus she made the right choice about my right hind leg. Thank you again.

Fur and Purrs,

Isabella Long Legs"

Lola Staying Cool!

“Lola” is a 7 year old Rottie who underwent surgery at FVRC to remove a cancer (sarcoma) that was found on her right front leg.  At this time “Lola” is taking oral chemotherapy medication at home to keep her tumor from growing back.   She is feeling great and in remission!    In between her check-ups at FVRC “Lola” enjoys swimming in her pool with brother “Gunner”! – Dr. Sarah Kraiza, Oncologist

Meet Amos & Andy!

"Meet Amos & Andy! Amos was born on Christmas day and Andy was born Jan 15th. We picked up Andy this past Friday and Amos a few weeks ago. Everyone is getting along really well. Buckwheat, who cried every day since December, cries no more. The poor boy was just lonely! Be sure and tell everyone we said hello." -Mr. Jeff Phillips

The Phillips family became part of the FVRC family when they brought their 2 mastiffs - Buckwheat and Butch -here for treatment.  Unfortunately, we lost Butch last December to nasal lymphoma.  We were all so heartbroken by the loss of Butch.  Luckily the Phillips were able to make room (literally) in their home for 2 new mastiff puppies - Amos and Andy.

Butch will be forever missed but I know he would be so happy to know Buckwheat has playmates again.  We love you Butch!
